Hot stones have been used throughout the ages by many ancient cultures from around the world. The Chinese, Roman and Native American peoples all employed them as a healing aid.

Crystal therapy has been widely practised in ancient times and like Hot Stone Massage, has enjoyed a great revival and is now extremely popular.

In 1993, in Tucson, Arizona, Mary Nelson started to work with basalt stones in conjunction with her massage techniques. She found that her clients were able to benefit more deeply from the treatment, than by just using her hands.  It also helped to prevent her from straining her hands and fingers.

Basalt stones are volcanic and are known to be excellent retainers of heat. They are formed on the exterior surface of a volcano, from molten lava. During their formation they are exposed to other minerals, the rain, wind, sun and pressure. This process gives these remarkable stones a wonderful energy that can be used to enhance the treatment for clients.

I use Aromatherapy Oils in conjunction with my Hot Stones treatment. It has been found to be wonderfully relaxing, warming and soothing.
